Dr. Sofia S joined as Assistant Professor of Botany at Fatima Mata National College (Autonomous), Kollam on 04.01.2021, where she combines her expertise in plant sciences with her commitment as a religious nun in the FIH congregation. With a Doctorate in Ecology and Phytochemistry, Dr. Sofia’s research has profoundly explored the impact of heavy metal contamination on mangrove ecosystems. Her pioneering PhD work in Kerala's Chirackal and Kattiparambu creeks revealed critical insights into how pollutants like Cadmium, cobalt, lead, cadmium, and mercury affect these vital coastal environments. Dr. Sofia’s academic output includes 10 research publications and 6 book chapters, and she serves as an editor for a notable book on agricultural engineering and food sciences. She is also a reviewer for InSc International publications, and her work was recently recognized with the Research Excellence Award from the Institute of Scholars.
